What we do

The full scope of what Better Connected does for you.

We are not a comparison site, a switching platform or a call centre with a login page. We are an advisory led consultancy, which means we think before we recommend and we stay after we have acted. Eight service areas, one named portfolio manager, for the full life of every contract.

Service area one

Energy procurement & contract strategy

The energy procurement market looks simple from the outside. You get quotes, you pick the cheapest, you sign. The reality is more nuanced, and the gap between a well timed, well structured contract and a default renewal can run to tens of thousands of pounds over the contract term.

We start with your consumption profile. Not the headline annual figure but the shape of it. When you draw your heaviest loads, what your demand profile looks like across seasons and whether your Half Hourly data reveals patterns a fixed rate contract should account for. Every tender is priced across ten or more suppliers and compared across multiple term lengths. Each site in a multi-site estate is assessed individually rather than treated as a single blanket renewal.

Market timing

Energy wholesale prices move. We monitor market conditions and advise on when to fix, how long to fix for and whether a flexible or structured product makes more sense than a standard fixed rate contract.

Contract structure

The unit rate is only one element of what you are signing. Pass-through versus all inclusive, break clauses, deemed rate exposure on expiry, auto-renewal triggers and volume tolerance clauses all have financial consequences most businesses only discover after signing. We review contract terms before you commit to anything.

One thing worth knowing: if you are currently on an auto-renewed contract, you may have grounds to challenge the terms. Ask us to look at the renewal correspondence.

Service area two

Market intelligence & interpretation

Wholesale market data is everywhere. Interpretation is rare. Our market intelligence runs through a structured four stage process so market movements are translated into a clear commercial decision rather than left as noise.

01

Anchor Report

A fixed reference point for your portfolio. Where your contracts and renewal windows sit against the market today.

02

Market Log

Continuous tracking of wholesale movements, policy changes and supplier behaviour relevant to your position.

03

Insight Builder

Raw movement interpreted against your consumption profile, contract terms and appetite for risk.

04

Client Output

A clear recommendation. Fix, wait, restructure or challenge, with the reasoning shown in full.

Proprietary methodology of Better Connections Limited

Service area three

Supplier billing audit & error correction

We review every bill we can get our hands on. Not skimming the total. Reading the line items, cross referencing against the contract, checking metering data and verifying network charges against the applicable rates for your profile class and region.

The errors we find most frequently are structural rather than clerical. A DUoS band misclassification. A capacity charge set at installation and never reviewed. A standing charge that includes a component the contract does not justify.

Historical auditing

Most suppliers will accept retrospective claims up to six years back. We do not charge for the audit. We take a percentage of any recovery we achieve, agreed in writing upfront.

Service area four

Supplier dispute management

When a supplier gets it wrong, most businesses face a choice between absorbing the cost and spending weeks in a complaints queue. We remove that choice. We challenge suppliers directly, in writing, with the licence conditions and the evidence attached, and we manage the dispute through to resolution.

One example of what that looks like in practice. A commercial property client acquired a portfolio of sites where several energy contracts had not been correctly terminated by the outgoing tenants, leaving the client on deemed out of contract rates from the date of acquisition. We reviewed the rates being applied across the portfolio and identified that several suppliers were charging above the published out of contract rate they were required to display under their licence conditions. We formally challenged each supplier on that basis, secured retrospective adjustments back to the acquisition date, then ran a full tender and had every site on a contracted arrangement within six weeks of taking on the relationship.

The standard we apply to every dispute: catch what a client would not otherwise have known to challenge, recover it, and resolve the underlying position quickly.

As an ADR Registered TPI, membership number C35BETT02, we operate within a recognised dispute resolution framework. That registration is a commitment to how disputes should be handled, not a marketing line.

Service area five

Non commodity cost management

A growing share of every business energy bill has nothing to do with the energy itself. DUoS and TNUoS network charges, capacity charges, balancing costs and government policy costs now dominate many bills, and they are rising sharply under the current price control period.

These costs are not fixed facts. Capacity settings can be reviewed and reduced. DUoS classifications can be corrected. Policy cost exemptions can be claimed. We manage the non commodity side of your bill as actively as the commodity side, because that is where many of the recoverable errors live.

Service area six

Metering services: MOP, DC and DA management

Meter Operator, Data Collector and Data Aggregator agreements sit quietly behind every Half Hourly supply, and most businesses never chose theirs. Their supplier appointed themselves. We provide metering services directly, as a recurring offering managed through the life of the relationship rather than a one off procurement exercise.

Independent MOP and DC arrangements typically cost meaningfully less than the equivalent taken through a supplier, and they put the contract, the data and the service standard under your control. Our group business Data Jigsaw provides independent Half Hourly metering at scale.

Service area seven

Ongoing advisory support

Every client has a named portfolio manager. That person reads your bills, tracks your renewal windows, monitors your consumption against baseline and answers the phone. Advisory support is built into how we are paid, so it runs for the full life of the contract rather than ending at the signature.

This is the part of the service clients describe as the reason they stay. Our client retention rate is 90 percent.

Service area eight

Carbon reporting & compliance

Reporting obligations grow every year, and so does the temptation to meet them with paperwork rather than progress. We help you understand what each option delivers in real world carbon terms, what it costs relative to the alternatives and whether the numbers support the investment at your scale.

If a green tariff is simply bundled REGOs with a premium attached, we will tell you that. If your organisation has made a public net zero commitment, we can help you build an energy roadmap grounded in measurable reduction rather than offset led accounting.

The honest version: we would rather tell you a renewable option does not stack up at your scale than sell you theatre. Read our plain English guide to REGOs and green tariffs.

Next step

Eight service areas. One document that sets them all out.

Our Service Commitment document is the master reference we give clients. It covers all eight areas and sets out our commission model plainly. Ask for it, or start with a conversation.
